You know that grumbling in your stomach you get when you are not eating well? That rumbly grumbly feeling is not just in your stomach, it affects every part of your body: your immune system, energy levels, hormones and especially the brain and nervous system. Many people aren't aware of this, but what you put in your gut has a direct impact on your mental health. We need to FEED THE GRUMBLE with the right foods to help us live better and happier!
Nutrition and health are a journey. I know this better than most. I spent most of my life eating the Standard American Diet and as a result, I was tired, sick, overweight and generally ornery. I couldn't figure out what was wrong and thought maybe this is just "me." Then I noticed the same patterns happening with my daughters - inexplicable illnesses and disorders were popping up and no one could tell me why. Countless (and expensive) doctor visits, therapy sessions and medications weren't helping any of us. We were just getting sicker and sadder. I knew I had to do something so like any good mom, I set about educating myself which led me to a degree in Nutrition Therapy and I can tell you, it has changed everything.
I can help you, because I was you, I am you. Understanding the why and how behind how our food choices shape our mental health, resistance to disease and overall quality of life, will help you take the steps to a healthier life and lifestyle. And it IS a journey - you don't just wake up one morning and say, "From now on, I'm healthy," and expect it to stick. We need to set realistic expectations to make lasting changes. And once you do, you'll never go back. You CAN do this!
